FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sheltering Arms Partners with Global Gift Registry to Raise
In-Kind Donations for Families in Need
Community-led organization recently raised over $140,000 in essential gifts for organizations located in Chicago, Miami and New York City
ATLANTA, August 25, 2020— Sheltering Arms, one of the largest and the longest-established early childhood education providers in Georgia, announces a partnership with the Global Gift Registry, a community-led global organization that channels the resources of diverse women to provide essential support to homeless women and families in vulnerable communities. Within 10 days of launching, the partnership has raised over $15,000 for Sheltering Arms sending 1,200+ gifts to Atlanta Metro families in need – including food, diapers, strollers, car seats, learning and school supplies, household cleaning products, personal care items, gift cards and so much more. Sheltering Arms’ online registry calls for essential items which can add up for low income families. The gifts from Global Gift Registry will help ease this financial strain. The campaign will be active until September 7 and can be found at globalgiftregistry.org.
Armed with the belief that no gift is too small, the Global Gift Registry works with each partner organization to curate a wide selection of products, some starting at less than $1.00, removing any barrier of entry to participate. Similar to a traditional baby shower gift registry, “hostesses” work together using the power of emails, text messaging, and social media to ask their networks to purchase gifts. Whether they are first-time donors or long-time philanthropists, Registry givers have a singular goal—to change lives one gift at a time.

“We’re so grateful to be a recipient of the Global Gift Registry and proud to be part of this impactful campaign,” said Blythe Keeler Robinson, president and CEO, Sheltering Arms. “Many of our families have been devastated by the pandemic, and donations to this effort will help them as they continue to stabilize. Oftentimes, the result is children arriving at school more focused and ready to learn.”
After a chance encounter with a homeless pregnant woman in Miami, Jacqueline Nickelberry, a philanthropist, lifestyle guru and Spelman College graduate, co-founded the Global Gift Registry in April 2020. This community-based fundraising initiative helps women and families exponentially impacted by COVID-19. In just 4 months, The Global Gift Registry has raised and distributed more than $140,000 in in-kind and cash donations. With its vast global network of engaged friends, the organization will head to the West Coast this fall working with organizations in California and Texas.
“As a proud Spelman alumna, I’m excited to partner with Sheltering Arms to shower the City of Atlanta with love and support from the Global Gift Registry,” said Nickelberry. “With increased income insecurity resulting from furloughs and layoffs, communities need our immediate help. Using easy click-to-give technology accessible from even a cell phone, people all of the world are donating essential products through our Registries. The gifts arrive within days of donation, are quickly sorted and then distributed to help to ease families’ financial burdens.
After temporarily closing in mid-March, Sheltering Arms shifted its focus to relief efforts for enrolled families most impacted by the pandemic, many who rely on the organization for food and diapers during the school day.
Family support coaches worked closely with families to assess their needs and connect them to community resources that provide meals, bill and rent assistance, mental health support and at-home learning tools for children. The organization also established the Sheltering Arms Family Emergency Fund so the community-at-large could assist with continued support efforts, and partnered with local organizations to continue providing diapers, wipes, hygiene products, baby food, games and toys.
The Global Gift Registry will significantly support Sheltering Arms families with many basic necessities across all sites and those they serve in the community.

ABOUT GLOBAL GIFT REGISTRY
Global Gift Registry was co- founded in 2020 by philanthropist and activist Jacqueline Nickelberry. A one chance encounter in downtown Miami with a homeless woman who was eight months pregnant and sleeping on a cement bench birthed a community-led gifting movement. Frustrated by lack of resources for expecting women, the Global Gift Registry was founded in the belief that all women and families should have access to the basic necessities to start life off right regardless of their circumstances. For more information on this movement, please visit globalgiftregistry.com or on social media (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn) @globalgiftregistry.
